The Bourbon Trail weekend was outstanding. Four Ferrari s met at the Silo Club in downtown Indianapolis Friday afternoon for a drive to the Omni Hotel in Louisville. The Ferrari’s had front line status at the hotel, with security from the valets and a lot of pictures from by-standers. We left for Jack Fry’s shortly after arrival at the hotel. What an interesting place! We felt like gangsters from the 1930s. I don’t think the place has changed much since then, and the dinner was outstanding. Returning to the hotel, we checked out the hidden speak-easy in the Omni for a night cap.
Saturday morning started with breakfast, then the roar of the engines as we headed for the James Beam Distillery. We all learned a little about the legacy of the distillery. We then headed to Versailles, KY for an enjoyable lunch at Ricardo’s Grill and Bar. Then off to Woodford Reserve for the “Spectacle of the Senses”. A slow check-out line for special bourbons at their gift shop meant spirited driving to get to Maker’s Mark in time for the last part of the tour. And it was hot- 106 degrees on Justin’s 488 dash thermometer! All the Spiders had their tops closed and air conditioning on. At Maker’s Mark, Russell sealed a bottle of Knob Creek from the line with an emblem of the prancing horse from his wife Lenora’s necklace. We then returned to the Omni and relaxed before our late dinner at the Repeal Steakhouse, one of the best restaurants in Louisville. It was a memorable weekend!
